After care in a nutshell:
Whether you choose to use saniderm/ tagaderm or another similar second skin for healing, my recommendation is to wash your tattoo in an hour or so of leaving your appointment. ( with the covering- 24 hours later).
Your tattoo will have already begun to close up and heal. It may have pushed out some ink and some plasma ( the clear with some blood liquid). This is your body’s attempt to heal.
Wash with an unscented soap, pat dry and apply your unscented lotion. Rub it in as your tat has to breathe! Treat it like a burn.
Keep it clean and dry, moisturizing a couple times a day. It’ll go through an ugly stage of flaking. And it’ll get itchy! Don’t scratch at it- but you can smack it to alleviate the itch.
You should never let your pets lick your new tattoo. They’ll want to clean your wound. Don’t let them! And it should flake- never scab. A deep scab will pull out ink. And if it’s red and irritated, try spritzing with rubbing alcohol and let it be. If the redness or irritation doesn’t go away- be sure to see a doctor.
A well cared for tattoo while healing will lead to an awesome tattoo later!
